PHNTM One: facts, photos and copy you can use.

FOR JOURNALISTS, REVIEWERS, LIST-MAKERS AND AI ASSISTANTS · UPDATED OCTOBER 7, 2026

I’m Jacob DeCamp, founder of DeCampLabs and the builder of PHNTM One. Here are the facts, usable descriptions and media labels I’d want an editor to have before covering it. Specifications are published configuration details; they are not performance measurements.

In one sentence

PHNTM One is a $799 Raspberry Pi 5 touchscreen appliance for local chat, memory, Notes, voice and questions about your own documents.

A paragraph you can use

Built by Jacob DeCamp at DeCampLabs, PHNTM One combines a Raspberry Pi 5 with 8 GB RAM, 256 GB NVMe M.2 SSD and a 10.1-inch 1920×1200 touchscreen. In Private mode, chat, memory search, transcription and speech run on-device. Notes preserves originals separately from AI drafts. Document answers include supporting file/page references. Optional cloud answers and connected accounts have separate network paths. The small local model is slower and less capable than frontier services, and AI/OCR can make mistakes.

Facts at a glance

  • Price: $799 USD, plus applicable tax. No required subscription for local use. Current US purchases are made to order; consult ordering and buying terms.
  • Hardware: Raspberry Pi 5, 8 GB RAM, 256 GB NVMe M.2 SSD, 10.1-inch 1920×1200 touchscreen, active cooling and speaker.
  • Kit: USB microphone, mini keyboard with touchpad, 27 W USB-C US power supply, quick-start and unit serial cards. See full specifications.
  • Local model: Gemma 3 4B Q4_K_M through Ollama, with an 8K context budget in the current manual.
  • Founder: Jacob DeCamp, DeCampLabs. This is my commercial product.

One useful workflow

Record a project note, review the transcript and keep the original. Ask for a separate cleanup or project-checkpoint draft. Import a reference PDF through PHNTM Drop on your local network, then ask about it and check the cited file and page. Explicitly save a useful detail as a memory for later. Notes dictation supports up to 60 seconds; longer generated drafts can take several minutes.

Private means a specific boundary

The model, memory search, transcription and speech run locally in Private mode. Local chat needs no cloud AI account. A paired phone browser communicates across the LAN. Optional Claude answers send context to the provider. Telegram, if connected, carries messages through Telegram in every mode. Connected email and calendar have their own data paths; OS networking and owner-initiated updates are separate again.

Limits worth including

The model can be confidently wrong. OCR can miss text; a citation helps you inspect the source, but does not guarantee the answer. An idle model can be released and later reloaded, making the next answer slower. Reminders depend on trustworthy time, especially after offline power loss. Response-time and reliability improvements are ongoing. A shipped unit is not automatically evidence of every later development change. The complete application is not advertised as open source; model and component licences are separate.

Technical angles to examine

The build story covers document workers sharing RAM with inference, cancellation that cleans up the worker group, saving originals before AI revisions, honest failure reporting and unverified clocks. The orb gets the photograph. The resource budget does the work.
